Frequently asked questions
How long do you have to file a claim after a covered incident?
Your policy requires you to notify Steadily as soon as reasonably possible after becoming aware of damage you want to claim. The sooner you report it, the sooner we can start the process and make sure you're reimbursed for all covered perils.
Do you need a police report to file an insurance claim?
It depends on the nature of the claim. If your claim involves a crime — for example, a burglar shattered a window or a vandal marked up your property — a police report is required. If no crime was involved, there's no need to contact law enforcement.
How long should an insurance claim take to process with Steadily?
Processing time varies drastically depending on the type and complexity of the claim. Our claims team is committed to making the process as quick and straightforward as possible for every policyholder, and our agents will work with you individually to get a resolution as quickly as we can.
Are insurance claim payments taxable?
In most cases, no. Insurance payouts for property damage are considered reimbursement for a loss, not income, so they generally aren't taxable. There are exceptions — lost rental income payments may be taxable since that income would have been taxable otherwise, for example. If your claim is straightforward property damage, you likely won't owe taxes on the payout. We are not tax experts, and it's best to consult with a tax professional to be sure.
